I saw these trees near Kinver in South Staffordshire whilst on a woodland walk. Both were ancient oaks and I was immediately struck by their majesty.
gnarled and knotted they must be several hundred years old.
Oil is the perfect medium to capture the bark texture as it produces such a high impasto when used thickly and I used a palette knife to scrape through the paint to capture extra details.
This piece is protected by two coats of artist’s quality varnish and corded on the back ready to hang.
